Commercial Air Conditioning Installation & Maintenance

Air Conditioning

Cooling and Heating for Commercial Premises

Millennium designs, installs, services and repairs commercial air conditioning across Newcastle, North Shields and the wider North East. We work in offices, hotels, retail units, hospitality venues and production environments — places where the system has to keep working during trading hours and where a breakdown is felt immediately.

Most commercial systems are heat pumps, so the same equipment that cools a space in summer heats it in winter. Sizing that correctly for the room, the occupancy and the heat given off by equipment matters more than the badge on the unit, which is why every job starts with a site survey rather than a price list.

Wall-mounted split systems for individual offices, treatment rooms and smaller retail units.

Ceiling cassette systems that distribute air evenly across an open floor and sit flush into a suspended ceiling.

Multi-split systems running several indoor units from one outdoor unit — useful where outdoor space is limited or where areas may be subdivided later.

Ducted systems concealed above ceilings where the installation needs to stay out of sight.

We service and repair all makes, not only the equipment we install, and we work on existing systems inherited from a previous contractor.

Installation and Replacement

Every installation starts with a site visit. What a space actually needs depends on its size, its glazing, how many people are in it, what equipment is in it generating heat, and how the room is used through the day — none of which can be established from a floor plan alone.

From there you get a specification and a written quotation setting out the equipment, the layout, the controls and what the installation involves. Nothing is ordered before you have seen that.

Replacements are a large part of the work. Older systems reach a point where parts get hard to find, efficiency has dropped, or the refrigerant they run on is being phased down. We will tell you when a system is worth keeping going and when it is not — including when the honest answer means less work for us.

Installation is planned around your trading. Where a space cannot be out of use during business hours, the work is scheduled to suit. Systems are commissioned, handed over and explained rather than simply left running.

Servicing, Maintenance and Repairs

Air conditioning is easy to forget about while it works. The trouble is that it degrades quietly — filters load up, condensers foul, refrigerant charge drops slowly through a small leak — and the first obvious symptom is often the day it fails to hold temperature in a heatwave, which is the day you least want to discover it.

Planned maintenance catches those things while they are still routine. Visits are scheduled around the site, and we service equipment we installed and equipment we did not.

Where a system uses a fluorinated refrigerant there are legal duties on the operator around leak checking and record keeping. The thresholds and intervals depend on the refrigerant and the charge in your particular system, so it is worth establishing which apply to yours rather than assuming. We are happy to go through that with you.

Sectors We Work In

Offices and commercial property, retail units, hotels, bars and restaurants, healthcare premises, and production and workshop spaces. The requirements differ more than people expect. A treatment room needs quiet, steady conditions. A server room needs cooling that does not stop. A production floor needs something that will still be right after the layout changes.

That last case is a real one. For an electronics production facility we installed ceiling cassette units on a multi-split system, chosen specifically so the client could divide the working areas differently later without replacing the system that conditions them — read the project.

Signs a System Needs Attention

Worth reporting rather than waiting on: the system running constantly instead of cycling off; a noticeable drop in how cold or how warm it will get; water dripping from an indoor unit; new noise, rattling or vibration; ice forming on pipework; or a smell on start-up.

Any of those usually means the system is working harder than it should, which shows up on the electricity bill long before it becomes a breakdown. More questions answered on our FAQ page.
